Eva Lynn Bishop understands: "Some days, girls just need to wear a tiara." And wear fancy dresses. And drink fancy drinks. That's why Bishop and Marie Pizano-Firtik created the
Tiara Tea Society in Bartlett, Tenn. The society holds fancy tea parties three times a year to raise money for charities.
What a fantastic idea! (Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to wear my tiara. And that bridesmaid's dress from my sister's wedding a couple of years ago.)
Last week, the society
sponsored a tea party for Savanna Chappell, a 19-month-old girl with congenital cataracts. The lenses of Savanna's eyes were removed when she was 6 months old so her eyes could develop normally; she wears heavy glasses that must be changed two or three times a year. Money raised by the tea party will pay for glasses for Savanna.
Tiara Tea Society members are required to wear tiaras and formal gowns to each tea. The annual $50 membership fee is paid directly to the charity the group is supporting.
